Maharashtra Government to Launch AI University Committee Formed Under Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar

Pune: Recognizing the growing importance of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Maharashtra government has announced the establishment of a dedicated AI university in the state. A task force led by renowned scientist Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar has also been formed for this purpose. The university is expected to be launched by June, according to Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil.

Patil shared this information during the inauguration of the conference titled “BC to AD – Before ChatGPT to AI Disruption” organized jointly by Chandrashekhar Agashe College of Physical Education (CACPE) and MES’s Garware College of Commerce.

The event was attended by dignitaries including Air Marshal (Retd.) Bhushan Gokhale, President of Maharashtra Education Society; Pradeep Naik, MES Vice President; Babasaheb Shinde, Chairman of MES’s Governing Council; Rohan Damle, Secretary of Maharashtriya Mandal; Neha Damle, Director of Education; Dr. Sanjeev Sonawane, Vice-Chancellor of Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University; Dr. Sanjay Tambat, Dean of Interdisciplinary Studies at Savitribai Phule Pune University; Dr. Vivek Sawant, Chief Mentor of Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited (MKCL); Dr. Sopan Kangane, Principal of CACPE; Dr. Kishor Desarda, Principal of Abasaheb Garware College; and conference coordinator Dr. Shraddha Naik.

Speaking at the event, Patil said, “The use of AI is increasing in every sector across the country. Although India was late in entering this field, we are poised to make rapid progress. With the new government in power, the state under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is making strong efforts to promote AI across sectors.”
