
Bengaluru, April 11 (Abhyspeeth): Imperial College London is set to open its first international research hub in India — Imperial Global India — in Bengaluru this May, marking a landmark step in enhancing UK-India partnerships in science, technology, and higher education.
The upcoming hub will function as a liaison office to facilitate co-created research, deepen industry and policy collaborations, and build a platform for innovation exchange between the two countries. The initiative is closely aligned with India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the UK-India Technology Security Initiative.
A Gateway to Future-Driven Research
The Bengaluru hub will focus on emerging and high-impact sectors including:
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Quantum Computing
Telecommunications
Biotechnology
Advanced Materials
Critical Minerals
Semiconductors
Imperial has had long-standing collaborations with premier Indian institutions like IISc, IITs, and AIIMS, and this hub will further accelerate joint initiatives in addressing global challenges.
Leading the Bengaluru Initiative
The hub will be led by two senior Imperial academics:
Prof. Sanjeev Gupta – An Earth Scientist collaborating with IIT Kanpur on groundwater sustainability.
Dr. Elena Dieckmann – A biomaterials innovator working on reusing waste solar panels in green construction.
Together, they will guide the hub’s research direction and foster meaningful partnerships with Indian academic and industrial entities.
