The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has released a major recruitment notification for 2025, inviting applications for 9,970 Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) posts across various railway zones. This is a golden opportunity for aspirants looking to start a career in Indian Railways.
The application process has started from April 12, 2025, and will remain open until May 11, 2025. Interested candidates can apply through the official website – rrbapply.gov.in. The selection process will be conducted through a series of computer-based tests and aptitude assessments.
To be eligible, candidates must have passed Matric/SSLC along with an ITI certificate in a relevant trade, or possess a diploma/degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, or Automobile). The age limit is 18 to 30 years as of July 1, 2025, with age relaxations applicable for reserved categories.
The selection process involves three main stages:
1. CBT 1 – a preliminary test covering Math, Reasoning, General Science, and Current Affairs.
2. CBT 2 – a more detailed paper with questions based on the candidate’s chosen trade.
3. Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) – applicable only for ALP roles.
Candidates who qualify all stages will undergo document verification and medical fitness tests. The starting salary for ALPs is ₹19,900 per month as per the 7th Pay Commission.
The application fee is ₹500 for General/OBC candidates (₹400 refunded after appearing for CBT 1), and ₹250 for SC/ST/PwBD/ExSM (fully refunded post CBT 1).
