PUNE: In a major breach of exam confidentiality, the Maharashtra State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has lodged a police complaint against 21 YouTube channels for allegedly leaking the Class 9 Marathi question paper of the Periodic Assessment Test (PAT). The leak came to light on April 7, just a day before the exam, when the question paper, along with its solutions, surfaced across several social media platforms.

The complaint was filed by SCERT’s Assistant Director, Sangeeta Shinde, at Vishrambaug Police Station, Pune. Channels like ‘Tutor ADM’, ‘Scholarship Study’, and ‘Knowledge Ganga’ are among those named for the unauthorized distribution of examination material. The accused are being investigated for breaching confidentiality norms and violating cyber regulations.

SCERT Director Rahul Rekhawar expressed serious concern over the leak, stating, “We have identified 21 channels and initiated action to get them banned. Legal proceedings are underway, and we are working closely with the police and cybercrime units to trace the origin and stop such misconduct.”

Despite the leak, SCERT decided to go ahead with the examination as scheduled, citing the massive logistical scale. Rekhawar clarified, “We have to distribute nearly 3.94 crore question papers to over 1.21 crore students across the state. Reprinting and redistributing within a day isn’t feasible for internal assessments conducted across standards III to IX.”

Vishrambaug police, with support from cyber experts, have started investigating the digital trail. Senior Inspector Vijaymala Pawar confirmed that efforts are ongoing to locate the source and take strict action.

The incident has sparked concerns across educational institutions regarding the security of internal assessments. SCERT has assured the public that steps are being taken to tighten digital security and ensure the credibility of future exams.
