Senior Education Official Arrested for Fraudulent Teacher ID Scam in Maharashtra

In a serious case of corruption within the education system, a senior official from the Maharashtra Education Department has been arrested for issuing a fake teacher identification number (Shalarth ID) to an ineligible individual. The accused, Ulhas Narad, who served as a deputy director in the department, was arrested in Gadchiroli on Friday night following a detailed investigation.

The scam came to light when it was discovered that a man named Parag Nanaji Pudke had been receiving a government teacher’s salary and was even promoted to headmaster based on forged documents. Pudke had allegedly submitted fake experience certificates from a private school in Nagpur to obtain the ID. Despite no proper verification, Narad approved the issuance of the Shalarth ID—an essential credential required for salary disbursement to government teachers in Maharashtra.

Using this illegally obtained ID, Pudke secured employment at Nanaji Pudke Vidyalaya in Jevatala, Bhandara district, and continued to draw a government salary for an extended period.

The case was registered at Sadar Police Station in Nagpur, where further investigation revealed the depth of the malpractice. Both Narad and Pudke have now been taken into custody, and the police are exploring the possibility of a wider nexus involved in similar fraudulent appointments.

This incident has raised serious questions about the loopholes in the verification system for teacher appointments and highlights the need for stronger checks and balances. It also sheds light on how systemic failures can allow undeserving individuals to exploit public resources at the expense of genuine educators and students.

The Education Department has promised strict action and measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
