Zilla Parishad and Local Body Schools Across Maharashtra to Undergo Infrastructure Review by May 15

Pune: To assess and enhance the infrastructure of schools managed by local self-government bodies in Maharashtra, Primary Education Director Sharad Gosavi has directed a comprehensive inspection campaign to be conducted between April 11 and May 15. The schools under scrutiny include those operated by Zilla Parishads, Municipal Corporations, Municipalities, Nagar Parishads, and Cantonment Boards.

A state-level committee, led by former Bombay High Court Judge Anuja Prabhudesai, has been tasked with overseeing the inspection process. This committee, which periodically evaluates educational infrastructure, has recently issued new directives to examine the current state of facilities in these schools.

According to the committee’s instructions, each district committee is required to visit at least two schools per month, with a focus on institutions located in tribal, underdeveloped, or remote areas. The primary aim is to identify schools that lack essential amenities such as adequate buildings, functioning toilets, or kitchens.

Designated officials—including Center Heads, Extension Officers, Assistant Administrative Officers, and members of the District Level Committee—will conduct the on-site inspections. The teams are expected to document their findings in a standardized report format and submit them to the Directorate of Primary Education for further action.

The inspection drive is part of a broader initiative to improve the quality of education in schools run by local bodies by addressing infrastructural deficiencies. It seeks to ensure that children studying in these schools, especially in remote or marginalized regions, have access to a safe and conducive learning environment.
