Maharashtra Schools Ordered to Verify Teacher Vacancies Before Advertising on Pavitra Portal

Maharashtra: State Education Commissioner Sachindra Pratap Singh has directed the directors of primary and secondary education to ensure that teacher vacancies are published on the Pavitra portal only after verifying and adjusting surplus teaching staff. The instruction comes as part of an effort to maintain transparency and accuracy in the recruitment process.

Singh emphasized that schools must not advertise vacancies unless posts are genuinely vacant, particularly in cases where there has been a reduction in student numbers or where surplus teachers are already present. The data regarding sanctioned, active, and vacant positions for the academic year 2024–25 must be verified before advertisements are finalized.

Institutions that have already published or are planning to publish recruitment notices must cross-check their approved posts for the 2024–25 academic session. The Education Commissioner has clearly stated that if recruitment is conducted for non-existent or unapproved posts, appointed candidates will not be eligible to join the institutions. All necessary verification and advertisement processes on the Pavitra portal must be completed by April 15.

The recruitment drive covers teacher positions in all types of schools across the state—primary, upper primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools—including those managed by local bodies, grant-in-aid institutions (fully or partially), unaided schools, and night schools.

To ensure the selection of qualified and capable candidates, appointments are being made based on the results of the 2022 Aptitude and Intelligence Test, along with adherence to government rules and judicial directives. In the first phase of recruitment, recommendations were made for 18,034 teaching posts—15,063 of these without interviews and 2,771 through interviews—via the Pavitra portal.

The second phase of recruitment began on January 20, 2025, with new advertisements posted on the portal by various school managements. While group approvals for the 2024–25 session have been finalized, the Education Commissioner has cautioned that the number of approved posts may vary for different managements. As such, he has urged both education directors to thoroughly verify all advertised and vacant posts to avoid discrepancies.
