Mumbai University Bars 229 Colleges from First-Year Admissions for 2025–26

Abhyspeeth Education Desk

Mumbai : In a major move to uphold academic standards, the University of Mumbai has barred 229 affiliated colleges from admitting first-year students for the 2025–26 academic session. The decision comes after these institutions failed to comply with mandatory quality benchmarks set by the university.

According to official sources, the barred colleges either lack valid accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) or the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), or have not constituted College Development Committees (CDC) as mandated.

The University has also imposed monetary penalties on the non-compliant institutions and emphasized that adherence to basic regulatory frameworks is non-negotiable in ensuring the quality of higher education.

This move is expected to act as a wake-up call for other institutions lagging behind in meeting statutory and academic obligations. Students seeking admissions are advised to verify the status of colleges through the university’s official portal before applying.
