New Delhi : Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), one of India’s largest public sector enterprises and a Fortune Global 500 company, has officially invited applications for the engagement of Apprentices for the year 2025 under the Apprentices Act, 1961/1973 (as amended). This initiative is part of IOCL’s national-level Skill Building Mission, aimed at equipping young graduates and diploma holders with hands-on industry experience at the company’s major refineries across India.
The notification, released on 3rd May 2025, opens up massive opportunities for freshers, especially those with qualifications in B.Sc., ITI, and Diploma Engineering, to gain valuable industrial exposure across technical and operational roles in the petroleum and petrochemical sectors.
Under this recruitment drive, IOCL is offering apprenticeship opportunities at 9 refinery locations — Guwahati, Barauni, Gujarat, Haldia, Mathura, Panipat (PRPC), Digboi, Bongaigaon, and Paradip. The apprentices will be trained in multiple disciplines, including Chemical, Mechanical, and Boiler operations.
Each location has issued a specific advertisement number, with vacancies aligned to local requirements and reservation policies. For instance, Gujarat Refinery has notified over 100 positions, Panipat PRPC has nearly the same number, while Haldia, Barauni, and Paradip have announced robust intakes across various disciplines.
Apprenticeship positions are being offered in the following categories:
Trade Apprentice – Attendant Operator (Chemical Plant): Requires a 3-year B.Sc. in Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics.
Trade Apprentice – Fitter (Mechanical): Requires Matriculation with ITI (Fitter) of at least 2 years duration.
Trade Apprentice – Boiler: Requires a 3-year B.Sc. degree in Chemistry-related streams.
Technician Apprentice – Chemical Engineering: Requires a Diploma in Chemical / Petrochemical / Refinery Engineering.
Technician Apprentice – Mechanical Engineering: Requires a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
The duration of the apprenticeship is 12 months for most disciplines, except for Boiler apprenticeships which are for 24 months. Selected candidates will receive a stipend as per government norms, and their training will be conducted in fully-equipped refinery environments under experienced mentors.
Vacancies are distributed category-wise, with strict adherence to state-wise reservation policies for SC, ST, OBC (NCL), EWS, and PwBD categories. For example, Barauni Refinery alone offers 86 seats under the Attendant Operator category, while Panipat PRPC has announced 98 Technician Apprentice (Chemical) seats.
Interested candidates must ensure they apply for only one discipline and one refinery, as multiple applications may lead to disqualification. The selection process is expected to include written tests or interviews, depending on the location and trade applied for.
This apprenticeship program not only enhances employability but also provides a stepping stone for a future career in India’s fast-growing energy and industrial sector. IOCL has consistently been a top choice among engineering and science graduates for its reputation, scale, and robust training infrastructure.
Candidates are advised to go through the detailed advertisement available on the official IOCL website for their preferred refinery location and ensure they meet all eligibility criteria before applying.
