Mumbai; Indian Overseas Bank (IOB), a premier public sector bank headquartered in Chennai, has officially launched its recruitment drive for the post of Local Bank Officers for the year 2025–2026. In a notification dated May 12, 2025 (Advt. No.: HRDD/RECT/01/2025-26), the bank announced 400 vacancies for Junior Management Grade Scale-I (JMGS-I) officers, aimed at strengthening its regional banking operations across India.

This recruitment is unique in its structure—selected candidates will be posted only in the state they apply for and must possess proficiency in the local language. The initiative emphasizes both regional banking expertise and inclusive employment by drawing talent from the local population. The online application window opened on May 12, 2025, and will close on May 31, 2025. Applications are accepted exclusively through the bank’s official website www.iob.in.

The largest share of the vacancies—260 posts—is allotted to Tamil Nadu, where fluency in Tamil is required. Other states included in the recruitment drive are Maharashtra (45 posts, Marathi), Gujarat (30 posts, Gujarati), West Bengal (34 posts, Bengali), Punjab (21 posts, Punjabi), and Odisha (10 posts, Odia). The language requirement is non-negotiable and ensures better outreach, communication, and customer service in each region.

The distribution of vacancies follows the government’s reservation norms, with 60 posts reserved for SC candidates, 30 for ST, 108 for OBC, and 40 for EWS. The notification also includes provisions for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) across all categories, with 16 seats allotted collectively for visually impaired, hearing impaired, orthopedically challenged, and those with intellectual disabilities.

In terms of remuneration, the role of Local Bank Officer offers an attractive package. The starting basic pay is ₹48,480, with progressive increments taking the pay up to ₹85,920 over time. In addition, candidates will receive allowances like Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and City Compensatory Allowance (CCA), as per IOB’s service regulations in force. This makes the role financially rewarding and competitive within the public sector banking domain.

Selected candidates will be placed on a probation period of two years, during which their performance will be evaluated under the Officers’ Service Regulations (OSR). Upon successful completion of the probation, they will be confirmed in the bank’s service and eligible for further career progression.

The bank has advised applicants to carefully read the official notification before applying and to ensure that all personal and academic details are entered accurately. Importantly, once the application fee is paid, it will not be refunded or adjusted under any circumstances.

This recruitment marks a significant opportunity for aspiring bankers looking to make a difference in their home states through local banking roles. With an emphasis on linguistic and cultural alignment, Indian Overseas Bank’s move reflects a larger vision to deepen financial inclusion through local empowerment.
