The third merit list for the ongoing FYJC (Class 11) centralized online admission process was released late Thursday night across Maharashtra. By Friday morning, students and parents anxiously checking cut-offs were taken aback — especially those seeking admission in the Commerce stream. Contrary to expectations, the cut-offs for most reputed colleges rose rather than dropped in the third list, leaving many aspirants disheartened and confused about their next steps.
In fact, many top colleges in Mumbai have already filled their seats in the Commerce stream, making it impossible for hopefuls to secure admission even if they met the previous cut-off. This unexpected spike has sparked panic among students who were banking on the third round for better chances.

Similarly, MCC College’s cut-off climbed from 92.8% to 93%, and Somaiya Arts and Commerce increased from 88.6% to 90.2%. Podar, Ruia, Xavier’s, and Wilson have all filled their Commerce seats entirely.
What’s Next for Students?
The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education announced that 1,11,235 students were allotted seats in this third round, including:
Arts – 20,963 students
Commerce – 33,505 students
Science – 56,767 students
However, many top colleges no longer have vacant seats in the Commerce stream. As a result, students are anxiously awaiting the next round or may have to consider less popular colleges or alternate streams.
For many, the dream of studying in a reputed South Mumbai college may remain unfulfilled this year unless a vacancy arises in future rounds. Students and parents are advised to keep checking the official FYJC portal for updates and be ready to accept seats in the next allocation to avoid missing out altogether.
