Mumbai : The State Common Entrance Test Cell (CET Cell) has announced the results of the second Centralised Admission Process (CAP) round for engineering courses in Maharashtra. In this round, 1,62,205 students have been allotted seats in various colleges, while 14,016 students have had their admission applications frozen—meaning they must take admission in the allotted college or risk losing their seat in the CAP process altogether. Such students will only be able to secure admission at the institutional level after the fourth round.
This year, engineering admissions in the state saw a record registration of 2,14,000 students, competing for 1,83,760 available seats across various streams and colleges.
Second CAP Round Statistics:
Applications Submitted with College Preferences: 1,89,277
Seats Allotted: 1,62,205
Students Without Allotment: 21,555 (did not receive any of their preferred colleges)
Frozen Applications: 14,016 (must accept current allotment)
In the first CAP round, 1,99,748 students had registered their preferences. Out of these, 1,44,776 students received allotments, and 32,650 confirmed their admission. Among the 15,852 students whose applications were frozen in the first round, 15,710 took admission to their allotted colleges.
Key Dates for Upcoming Rounds:
Admission to allotted colleges in Round 2: August 12–14
Vacant seats for Round 3 to be displayed: August 16
Round 3 applications: August 17–19
Officials have reminded students that failure to confirm admission within the stipulated window will result in cancellation of allotment, and such candidates will be excluded from subsequent CAP rounds until the institutional level admissions begin.
Authorities have also noted that while most seats in popular branches such as Computer Science, IT, and AI & Data Science are filling quickly, a significant number of seats in Mechanical, Civil, and lesser-known colleges in rural areas remain vacant, likely to be contested in the upcoming rounds.
