Pune : The university has given a big relief to as many as 97 thousand students who were deprived of their degrees due to the expiry of the courses in various colleges affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University.
The university’s management council has decided to unblock the blocked PRN of students who did not complete their degrees and give them a special opportunity to appear for the exams.
As per the rules of the University Grants Commission, it is mandatory to complete degree education within a certain period. However, due to various reasons, especially one or two subjects remaining, many students could not get their degrees on time. Due to the expiry of the deadline, their permanent registration numbers (PRN) were blocked by the university, so they could not appear for the exams.
For the past few months, students and various student organizations had been demanding in this regard. Some students had met the university officials and presented their stand. Taking note of this demand, the issue was first discussed in the Vidya Parishad meeting. Then the Examination Board reviewed it in detail and finally the Management Council approved to give the opportunity.
This decision will directly benefit about 97 thousand students of affiliated colleges in Pune, Ahmednagar and Nashik districts. Their PRN will be unblocked soon, paving the way for them to complete their degree by passing the pending subjects. This decision has brought great relief to the students as well as their parents.
