Mumbai: Mumbai University has postponed all exams scheduled between 1 and 4 December in view of the Maharashtra Local Body Elections. The polls for 246 municipal councils and 42 nagar panchayats will be held on 2 December, with counting on 3 December.
According to a circular reported by Mid-Day, the rescheduled examinations will now take place from 16 to 19 December. Only dates have changed; exam timings remain unchanged. Departments, sub-centres and affiliated college principals have been asked to inform students and staff immediately.
State Election Commissioner Dinesh Waghmare had announced the election schedule earlier this month. The upcoming polls will elect 6,859 members and 288 municipal council presidents across the participating bodies. More than 66,000 staff will be deployed across 13,355 polling stations for over 1.07 crore eligible voters.
No announcement has yet been made regarding elections for the 29 municipal corporations — including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation — or for the 32 zilla parishads and 336 panchayat samitis, where polls remain pending.
