Pune : The MAHA TET 2025 exam has landed in the middle of a major controversy. Kolhapur Police detained a group accused of trying to tear and circulate the Teacher Eligibility Test paper, creating fresh fears about a statewide exam confidentiality breach.
Kolhapur Police immediately launched a massive investigation. In an unexpected move, the police team walked straight into the State Examination Council office on Wednesday 26 November and demanded to understand the internal exam paper handling process. Officials at the Council have confirmed this visit.
According to sources, police officers questioned Council staff in detail about how secrecy is maintained during question paper printing. They also asked which private agency prints the papers, who handles transportation to exam centres, and who has access to sealed packets.
During searches on the detained group, the police did not find any MAHA TET question paper. This has created confusion about whether the exam paper was actually torn or leaked. Investigators say there is no proof yet that a paper was leaked, although the gang had been preparing to tear the paper and allegedly sell it for nearly three lakh rupees. Some candidates had already paid advances, police said.
The TET exam this year saw one and a half lakh additional candidates because of the Supreme Court ruling that every teacher must clear TET. Against this backdrop, news of a possible paper leak sent shockwaves across the state.
Police sources revealed that if they had seized the torn set of question papers, they could have matched it instantly to the original set held by the Examination Council. The Council has already submitted the official November 23 question paper set to the police for comparison.
The arrested group’s source remains a mystery. How did they claim to have access to the exam paper. Who supplied it. Was it an insider. Police are now trying to trace every link in the chain.
Until then, the question remains. Was this a genuine leak attempt or only a bluff to cheat desperate candidates. The investigation continues, and the MAHA TET controversy is far from over.
