The Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) has changed the dates for Group B and Group C exams. This decision has been taken due to the counting of votes for the municipal elections. It has been clarified that the Group B exam will now be held on January 4 and the Group C exam on January 11.
There was a lot of confusion as the ‘Group B’ exam was held on the day of the counting of votes for the municipal elections in the state. The Maharashtra Group-B (Non-Gazetted) Services Combined Preliminary Examination was to be held on December 21 from 11 am to 12 noon. But now this exam will be held on January 4, 2026. While the ‘Group C’ exam will be held on January 11, 2026.
As per the order of the State Election Commission dated December 2, 2025, the counting of votes for the Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat General Elections 2025 was to be held on December 21, 2025. This created a direct conflict with the date of the MPSC exam. MPSC had sought information from all District Collectors regarding the possible problems that may arise if the examination and counting are conducted on the same day.
In this regard, several district centres reported that factors such as proximity of examination sub-centres to the counting centres, noise from loudspeakers, traffic jams, victory processions of candidates and shortage of staff for examination duties may create difficulties in conducting the scheduled examinations. Considering these challenges and possible disruptions in the examination process, MPSC has decided to postpone the examinations from their original scheduled dates and has announced revised dates for the examinations.
Now UGC NET and Group B examinations on the same day…
Although MPSC has announced the revised dates for the examinations, now the Group B examination and the UGC NET examination, which were to be conducted on January 4, will be held on the same day. Therefore, it is clear that the candidates who have filed applications for both these examinations. Those concerned candidates will have to miss one of the examinations.
