Pune: The long-pending recruitment process for Junior Engineer (Class 3) posts in the Civil Department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is finally back on track. The revised recruitment drive will now include provisions for the Maratha reservation. As a result, the updated advertisement will soon be released. Earlier, the recruitment was announced for 113 posts, but it has now been increased to 169 vacancies.
In January 2024, PMC had published an advertisement for 113 posts. However, the recruitment process was halted following the implementation of the SEBC (Socially and Educationally Backward Classes) reservation. After a request from the PMC, and in consultation with the Urban Development Department and the Divisional Commissioner’s Office, it was revealed that there are currently 171 vacant posts. Out of these, 2 have already been filled as per the Lad-Page Committee recommendations, leaving 169 positions open for recruitment.
Of the 27,879 candidates who had applied for the previous advertisement dated January 9, 2024, many have now crossed the age limit. However, based on PMC’s recommendation, the state government has granted them age relaxation. Therefore, their earlier applications will be considered valid, and they will also be allowed to revise their reservation category, if needed.
The recruitment process will be conducted by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS). PMC has submitted the proposal for this revised recruitment to the Standing Committee for approval. Previously, the municipal corporation had completed recruitment in two phases for 448 and 320 posts, respectively. This marks the beginning of the third phase and represents a large-scale recruitment for Junior Engineers in the Civil Department.
