The UGC has warned that action will be taken if exams are not conducted on time or certificates are not distributed on time.
The Commission has given clear instructions to all higher education institutions in the country to conduct exams on time and distribute certificates on time. Action will be taken if these instructions are violated, Commission Secretary Prof. Manish Joshi has also clarified in a circular. The Commission has also given instructions in 2024 regarding conducting exams on time and distributing certificates on time.
It is necessary for all higher education institutions to follow the rules and guidelines and conduct exams on time and award final academic degrees to students on time. The Commission has come to the notice of some institutions not conducting exams on time or delaying the distribution of degree certificates.
Delays in distribution of exams and certificates are adversely affecting the employment opportunities of students. Many difficulties also arise in the further educational journey of students. Therefore, the Commission has ordered that higher education institutions should follow the rules and guidelines to conduct examinations on time and issue final certificates to students on time.
As per Section 4.4 of the University Grants Commission Regulations 2008, the date of conferment of degrees must be within 180 days from the expected date of eligibility of the concerned student. Also, the Commission has stated that it is the right of students to conduct examinations on time as per the academic schedule and to have their results declared on time.
