In a significant development, the State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell of Maharashtra has announced that the MHT-CET 2025 examination for select courses will be re-conducted on May 5, following the detection of 21 errors in the original question paper.
The re-exam will be held for students seeking admission into postgraduate programs in Engineering (M.E./M.Tech), Agriculture, and Pharmacy across the state. The decision was confirmed by CET Cell officials on Wednesday, after a detailed review of student complaints and expert evaluation of the paper.
The errors identified include:Incorrect or ambiguous MCQ options. Mismatched question-to-topic alignment. Translation errors in the Marathi and English versions of the paper. Technical glitches in the online exam platform affecting a segment of students
Several aspirants had raised concerns immediately after the exam, prompting the CET Cell to initiate a quick audit. A panel of subject matter experts confirmed that these issues could have impacted merit rankings and fairness in evaluation, leading to the call for a re-examination.
Revised admit cards for the May 5 re-test will be issued by May 2 on the official CET portal. Only those candidates who appeared in the compromised session will be eligible to reappear. Their previous attempt will be nullified.
Education activists and student organizations have welcomed the transparency shown by the CET Cell, although they’ve stressed the need for more rigorous paper-setting protocols, better quality control in translations, and technical checks before conducting high-stakes entrance exams.
The MHT-CET is a crucial examination that determines entry into prestigious institutions across Maharashtra, and even minor discrepancies can have long-term academic consequences for students.
