Gandhinagar : The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) has invited applications for a prestigious postdoctoral research position in the field of geochemical reaction modelling and simulations. The research will focus specifically on two globally significant areas — geological carbon dioxide (CO₂) storage and critical mineral leaching. The position offers a unique opportunity to work under the guidance of Prof. Achyut Mishra from the Department of Earth Sciences at IITGN.

The selected candidate will join cutting-edge research on sustainable solutions to climate change and mineral resource extraction. As the demand for clean energy and carbon management continues to grow, IITGN’s initiative highlights its commitment to research aligned with environmental and industrial challenges.

The position comes with a consolidated monthly salary of ₹72,000 and is initially offered for one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance. The postdoctoral fellow will be expected not only to contribute to advanced research but also participate in academic responsibilities such as teaching and mentoring students.

To be eligible, applicants must hold a Ph.D. in a relevant field such as Geology or Geophysics. A strong foundation in geochemistry and geochemical modelling is essential, while knowledge of reaction kinetics and fluid flow in rocks will be considered an added advantage. Candidates who have submitted their thesis are also eligible to apply. The academic criteria require a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent grade in all higher education qualifications, with at least 55% in Class 10 and 12.

The application process involves sending a single PDF document via email to Prof. Achyut Mishra at [email protected], with the subject line “Application for Postdoctoral Position 2025”. The document must include a detailed CV, a two-page summary of doctoral and recent research, and a two-page proposal outlining future research plans. Applicants are also required to arrange for two letters of recommendation to be sent directly to the same email address.

The last date to receive priority consideration is June 20, 2025, though the position will remain open until filled.

More information about Prof. Achyut Mishra’s research can be found on his Google Scholar profile, and further details about the department are available at es.iitgn.ac.in.

This announcement marks an exciting opportunity for early-career researchers to contribute to one of the most critical areas in Earth sciences. IIT Gandhinagar continues to emerge as a leading institute not only in academic excellence but also in tackling some of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time.
