Pune University Files Cybercrime Complaint Over Fake SET Exam News

Pune: Savitribai Phule Pune University has taken legal action against the spread of fake news and misleading videos related to the upcoming State Eligibility Test (SET) by lodging a cybercrime complaint. The university has urged aspirants to rely solely on official channels for accurate information.

The 40th edition of the SET exam is scheduled to take place on June 15, 2025. It will be conducted across multiple college centres in 18 cities throughout Maharashtra and Goa. Organized under the guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC), this examination determines eligibility for Assistant Professor positions in higher education institutions.

Recently, numerous unverified videos and false claims have been circulating on social media, leading to confusion among candidates. In response, the university clarified that no such updates have been issued by the official SET department and labeled these viral messages as baseless.

A formal complaint regarding the spread of misinformation was filed at the Pune Cyber Police Station on June 11 at 9:00 PM. University officials stated that any individual responsible for spreading fake content or inciting unnecessary panic will face legal consequences.

SET authorities have emphasized the importance of ignoring unofficial reports and staying updated through the official university website and the dedicated SET portal. They reassured candidates that the examination process would be carried out smoothly and encouraged them to concentrate on their preparation without distraction.
